Sky Stream Guide: Setup, Features and How It Differs From Glass
What Is Sky Stream?
Sky Stream brings the entire Sky subscription ecosystem into a tiny, unobtrusive box. It runs Entertainment OS, giving you access to live Sky channels, Freeview streaming, and on-demand players without requiring a dish on your roof.
What You Need Before You Start
| Requirement | Specification | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Television with HDMI | HDMI 2.0+ with HDCP 2.2 | Essential for 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Vision handshakes |
| Broadband Speed | Minimum 25Mbps (HD) / 30Mbps (UHD) | Live channels stream continuously over internet protocol |
| Mains Power Socket | Standard UK 3-pin wall outlet | Puck requires dedicated external 5V/2A power supply |
Setting Up Sky Stream
- Connect the included HDMI cable from the puck to your TV's HDMI 1 port.
- Plug the power adapter into the wall.
- Switch your TV to the corresponding HDMI input.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi network and enter the activation code at
sky.com/activate.
Connections and Compatible TVs
The puck features an HDMI 2.1 port, a 100Mbps Ethernet jack, a DC power inlet, and a reset button. Note: While the puck chassis has an RF coaxial socket, this tuner is disabled in UK firmware and cannot be used for Freeview aerial reception.
The Remote and Voice Control
The Sky Stream remote is identical to the Sky Glass remote, providing Bluetooth pairing, motion backlighting, and voice search via the microphone button.
Playlist and Recording on Stream
Just like Sky Glass, Sky Stream has no internal hard drive. Pressing the '+' button bookmarks programmes into your cloud Playlist. Read our full explainer on how recording works on Sky Glass and Stream.
Using Extra Pucks in Other Rooms
By subscribing to the Whole Home pack (£12/month), you can order additional pucks for bedrooms or kitchens. Each puck connects independently to your router, allowing family members to watch different 4K channels simultaneously.
How Stream Differs From an Integrated Glass TV
With Stream, you provide the TV and audio equipment yourself. With Sky Glass, the screen and 250W soundbar are built into a single unit. For an exhaustive comparison, see Sky Glass vs Sky Stream.
Common Questions
Can I take Sky Stream to a holiday home?
Under Sky's contract terms, the service is licensed for use at your registered UK domestic address. However, technically it will function on any UK broadband connection above 25Mbps.
