What Each Product Is

Both products are powered by Entertainment OS, Sky’s cloud-based streaming operating system. When you navigate the guide, search for movies, or bookmark shows into Playlist, the user experience and channel lineup are 100% identical. The distinction is purely physical hardware and financing.

Broadband Requirements

Both devices require an identical minimum connection speed: 25Mbps for HD streaming and 30Mbps for 4K Ultra HD. Both feature 100Mbps Ethernet ports and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Subscription and Cost Comparison

With Sky Stream, you only pay for the TV subscription (e.g., Sky Entertainment & Netflix from ~£26 - £28/month on a 24-month rolling contract, with a standard £20 setup fee). The puck is loaned to you as long as you subscribe.

With Sky Glass, you are buying the television set on a 24-month or 48-month 0% APR consumer credit agreement (from £6/mo for Air or £14/mo for Gen 2), plus the ongoing Sky TV subscription pack. For detailed breakdowns, see our guide on Sky Glass prices and deals.

Features and Limits (Aerial Backup & Extra Rooms)

A major difference: Sky Glass has a working digital aerial input on the back. If your broadband connection goes down, you can plug in a regular TV aerial and continue watching standard Freeview terrestrial channels. The Sky Stream puck does not support aerial fallback in the UK; if broadband goes down, the puck cannot play live channels.
