What Is Sky Glass Gen 2?

Released as the premier model in Sky’s hardware lineup, Gen 2 addresses the primary feedback from early adopters: improving contrast in dark scenes, boosting dialogue clarity in movies, and streamlining stand assembly.

Sizes and Colours

Sky Glass Gen 2 comes in three diagonal panel dimensions: Small (43-inch), Medium (55-inch), and Large (65-inch). All three sizes share the exact same anodised aluminium frame and speaker array. Available finishes include Anthracite Black, Ocean Blue, and Racing Green, with color-matched woven fabric acoustic grilles.

Ports and Connections

All ports are housed in a recessed rear cavity with an integrated magnetic cable cover: 3x HDMI (HDMI 1 supports eARC), 1x USB-C (dedicated to Sky Live webcam power and data), 1x 100Mbps Ethernet RJ-45, 1x DTT Aerial RF input, and a two-pin figure-8 mains power socket.

Stand and Wall-Mount Compatibility

Gen 2 features a redesigned solid cast metal pedestal base that slides directly into the lower chassis using two captive locking screws. For wall mounting, Sky includes a custom low-profile wall bracket in the box, or you may use standard heavy-duty VESA brackets rated for the specified weight.

Key Features

Limitations

The panel operates at 60Hz refresh rate, meaning competitive gamers will not achieve 120Hz high-frame-rate output on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X (though Auto Low Latency Mode is supported). The chassis is also notably thick and heavy compared to modern edge-lit screens.

Gen 2 vs Gen 1

Gen 2 increases peak audio output from 215W to 250W, introduces local dimming zones that substantially reduce backlight bleed, and upgrades wireless reception to Wi-Fi 6. The original Gen 1 model was retired from active sale in 2025.

Gen 2 vs Air

Gen 2 includes the 250W Atmos soundbar, local dimming, and Sky Live support. The cheaper Air model strips back to standard 2-speaker audio and global dimming. Read our direct head-to-head in Sky Glass Gen 2 vs Air.

Who Should Consider Gen 2?

Gen 2 is built for buyers who want an all-in-one entertainment hub in their primary living room with clean, single-cable aesthetics and theater-grade built-in sound.
